Some months ago, a writer friend gave me a little notebook with a Japanese design on the cover to record my preparation for the launch of Gina in the Floating World. I used the diary not only to document my journey, much as I might make notes while traveling, but also to remind myself of my hard work. Most it isn’t all that interesting until the week between the publication date and the evening I officially presented my book to the world. As a writer, you dream about the day when you will present your first book to the world. That day—Tuesday, October 2, 2018, has come and gone, but I can honestly say that it was one of the most thrilling and exhilarating occasions of my life—up there with John’s and my wedding day in 1989 and the day I received my doctorate from the Harvard Graduate School of Education in 1992.
